Because you could just as easily say with a couple plays different here or there in our close losses, UCONN, UK, Syracuse, Kragthorpe could just as easily be 9-3 as well. If U of L was 9-3 instead of 6-6 or 5-7 no one would be calling for Kragthorpes head. We went 12-1 last year and had an outstanding year with last years team, Petrino, Kragthorpe, Nic Saban, Howard Schnellenberger, plug any name in as coach, I dont see this years team duplicating what last years team did. Reggie Bradshaw would have been a senior but Petrino never played him and he transferred out. 9 wins was possible but the way we played against Syracuse, Utah, USF we werent as good as last year same coaching or different coaching. We had no running game because we had no running backs. Kragthorpe suspended all the potheads (like he should have), Spillman, Strippling, Allen was hurt, Spencer was hurt, Bolen wasnt the answer. We had Brohm and Douglass (when he wasnt hurt), we were one diminsional, we had a porous defense, we werent as good as we thought we were, Petrino or not.

By your own logic, we should have kicked Amobi Okoye off the team last year because he smoked weed? I've never touched the stuff or any other controlled substance in my entire life, but to say that someone who chooses to get high deserves a suspension/dismissal is just silly. Should I have been stripped of my scholarship because I got shit-face drunk a few times in college? Before I turned 21, mind you? How about certain members of the basketball team that I know to have frequented certain adult establishments before they were of age? Should they all have been kicked off the team a couple years ago? Sorry, but I just don't buy weed as being this devil's drug that Kragthorpe and his ilk claim. If we had all these potheads playing last season, I don't see why they are a problem all of a sudden because we got embarrassed by Syracuse. Their recreational habit (which is no worse than drinking beer by most accounts) had nothing to do with the piss-poor game plan the coaches have put in all season.

Heres what really happened.
We all know Willie Williams's story and knew he was on a tight leash. He got what he deserved. Spillman has a spotty past that was really unclear because of the tight lips in the football program. But sounded like he got what he deserved too. Stripling is still on the team. I think Okoye would have benched for a couple games, but he would still be on the team cause he tried it once (and never did it again).

I hope you don't buy this... I only tried beer once, then waited until I turned 21 to drink again. Sounds silly, doesn't it?

And I COULDN'T do it at 21... yet I did. And so do many others. Just like many college kids smoke a little pot. And do it more than once.

Look, it comes down to this. You break the law, you deserve the punishment that the law makes for you. That law can be the governement, it can be a coach, it can be your parents or it can be all three.

The peer pressure argument... interesting. I don't remember saying I drank (or Amobi smoked) because my friends did, but whatever...
If you'd like to make your counter argument a little more clear, I'll try to address why this whole "pot crusade" is just a silly distraction that the coaches cooked up after they got their asses handed to them by Syracuse.
