My point is if he can't win with the tools that Petrino left him, then he will probably never win. This year is going to make it even tougher for us to recruit. This year has hurt us in many ways.

Tell me who you put in the following spots next year?

WR - Urrutia, Long?
TE - ???
2 OT
1 OG
2 DE
3 LB
SS
K (both FG and kickoff)

We may have an experienced secondary next season, but teams will have plenty of opportunity to shred us underneath with all that we are losing to graduation or have already lost to injury/discipline. Hunter has a stronger arm than Brohm and will enable us to stretch the field, but what does that matter when the offensive coordinator has proven unwilling to even consider airing it out?

Sorry, I'm not buying any improvements next season. Less depth, less talent, and the same number of wins (if we're lucky).

You dont know what Petrino would have done with this current team.

If you think they would have gone 13-0 your dead wrong.

This team obviously had less talent on defense than last year and Kragthorpe as well as Petrino or any other coach would have had their problems with that group.

I think we would be at 9 wins right now with Petrino.

But, I'm more concerned with who we are and who we will be than I am with the past. Looking ahead, I just can't see how we can improve that dramatically, particularly on offense. Freddy

How can you make these two statements one after another? We may not be able to say with certainty that Petrino would have finished ___ and ___, but you certainly can't say he WOULDN'T go 13-0. Stating either as fact is equally silly.

I think the point is that Petrino would have almost as certainly done BETTER than Krag as he would have certainly failed to go 13-0. I agree with Freddy... somewhere around 9 or 10 wins, even with the injuries and issues on defense.

The real problem, especially in the games after UK, was the precipitous fall-off on the offensive side of the ball. Giving up 55 to USF looks terrible, but until that game our defense was certainly keeping the team in the game by allowing fewer points than a Petrino offense would be expected to score. If you had offered me a 7 game stretch where the D allowed less than 40 six times, I would have banked on a 6-1 record with a shot at 7-0 as long as Bobby were running the offense.

You DEFINITELY wouldn't have seen five straight games where we failed to crack 35.

There's no way to sugarcoat this... Krag and Stubbs have derailed the offense and this program. Petrino may not have gotten the team back to a BCS bowl, but he would have certainly gotten the team SOMEWHERE in December beside sitting in the dorm rooms with thumbs up rears.

The thing that will be hard to do will be guaging improvement. Improvement from what?

Obviously, we had a pretty talented offense, good kicker this season. Next season, that changes.

If we went 5-6 next season..that really tells you nothing.. but i'd like to see certain things with each aspect of the team. The defense SHOULD be better next year..because damn, it better not get worse. The offense might take a hit in the passing game, but that rushing SHOULD improve if not be much more of a focus. Special teams should improve.

For many i think improvement means back to competing for a BCS bowl next season and that's unrealistic. The DC needs replaced for sure.

9 wins sounds good but which losses would you turn into wins?

UCONN, UK?

It certainly wouldnt have been the 55-17 blowout against USF, Wouldnt have been the loss to WVU since we couldnt stop Pat White.

Syracuse whipped us pretty good even though Brohm kept it close and so did Utah with their #2 back having a career rushing day on our defense.

So the close game to UK would have been won by the genius of Petrino?

Any number of things could have caused that game to turn out differently, like on UK's winning drive covering a reciever down the sidelines on a pass play would have helped.

Do you really think that's the position the coaches put those players in?

I'd hardly call a blown assignment a coaching gaff. At some point you have to let the players play the game, cut the cord and occasionally their guys are going to make plays & our guys are going to guess wrong.

Kragthorpe may not be the coach U ofL needs but I think as we can all see Petrino didnt leave Kragthorpe the shiny Bently in the driveway we thought was there.

The defense did make some improvements but it still wasnt a 9-3

Sure we had Brohm, we also had Urrutia who barely showed up this year, he and Brohm sure looked good last year.

Allen scored 13 TD's last year, he seemed to be hurt most of the year. Bolen isnt a feature back to carry our running game.

Our TE's seemed on a fast pace early in the year, they sure got cooled off at the end.

I'd be more willing to give Kragthorpe another year than start a coaching search all over again.

What the hell? How can you say I don't know what he would have done with this team and then say I would be dead wrong to think we would go 13-0. Haha.

Yeah, we have less talent on defense. Not much change on offense. I honestly think we would win atleast 10 to 12 games this season with Petrino at the helm.

Giving Fagthorpe 1 more year isn't going to change anything. Like someone said it isn't going to tell us anything. So either we get rid of him now, or we keep him for atleast 4 years. I'm not prepared to let him run us that far into the ground. Thats why I say we oust (not the air sanitizers either) him out now.
