Default Another splendid display of SEC defense yesterday

Once again, the myth suffers a damaging blow, as we are discovering that "smashmouth" defensive football is far from the norm in the SEC.

South Carolina gives up 48.
Vanderbilt gives up 49.
Georgia gives up 34 to Troy.
Mississippi gives up 31 to Northwestern State.
Arkansas gives up 36.
Alabama gives up 41.
LSU gives up 34.

It wasn't just this weekend. I've noticed the mighty SEC defenses have given up lots of points all year long.

Did anyone see the job Bozich did of ripping the SEC? He has a point, but all the conferences look vulnerable this year. The Big East has beaten each other up as well as the PAC-10 and Big 12. The ACC is still the ACC, and the Big 10 of course is still nothing more than OSU and Michigan and I don't have a great great regard for Michigan.

In spite of losing to UK, I still believe LSU may be the best out there. They've played 6 of 9 games against ranked teams this year.

See previous-- how many of them deserved their rankings? I think at least three of the teams they've played got a boost based on conference, or on their shiny new coaching hire...

I agree with you, though-- I think that IF WE HAD A PLAYOFF SYSTEM LIKE WE OUGHT TO, LSU would probably win out.

[/playoff rant]

I agree, but every team out there has a big knock against it. WVU loses to Maryland, BC loses to FSU, Ohio St hasn't played anyone, Oklahoma loses to Colorado. There doesn't appear to be any super team out there this year. In spite of LSU's foes getting in and then dropping out of the rankings, they have still played overall better competition than anyone else and have succeeded. There lone loss was triple overtime on the road. Of course, if any one of those half-dozen fourth down attempts against Florida failed, then they could very well have two losses.

Oh yeah. It's all coming back to me. Maryland (and now several other teams) beat Rutgers.
