Default Clearing up the BCS Mess

this was from the courier-journal this morning

Quote:
Bowl Championship Series

Bowl Date/Time Site TV Pairing Likely matchup
Rose Jan. 1/5:00 Pasadena ABC Big Ten vs. Pac-10 Michigan vs. LSU/Notre Dame
Fiesta Jan. 1/8:30 Glendale, Az. Fox Big 12 vs. BCS Okla./Neb. vs. Boise State
Orange Jan. 2/8:00 Miami Fox ACC vs. BCS Ga. Tech/Wake vs. Big East/LSU
Sugar Jan. 3/8:00 New Orleans Fox SEC vs. BCS Fla./Ark. vs. N. Dame/Big East
Championship Jan. 8/8:00 Glendale, Az. Fox Ohio State vs. BCS 2 Ohio State vs. Southern Cal

Automatic bids: Champions of the Atlantic Coast (Georgia Tech-Wake Forest winner), Big East (Rutgers, Louisville or West Virginia), Big Ten (Ohio State), Big 12 (Oklahoma-Nebraska winner), Pacific-10 (Southern Cal) and Southeastern (Florida-Arkansas winner) conferences.

At-large possibilities: Boise State (12-0) is a lock because it will finish in top 12 of BCS (it's now eighth); so is Michigan (11-1) if it stays No. 3 (BCS rule). Notre Dame (9-2) is an automatic choice only if it finishes in the top eight (it's 10th) but, like any team with at least nine wins, can be chosen if it finishes in top 14. LSU (10-2) is fifth in BCS and Louisville (10-1) is sixth. Florida (10-1) also is a possibility if it loses SEC title game to Arkansas. Only two teams can be chosen from a conference, so Wisconsin (11-1) is out.

Selection order: In order of how close timewise the bowl is to the championship game (Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Rose), except that bowls losing teams to the title game get to replace them first. So if the Rose loses both teams to the title game as expected, it gets the first two picks, followed by the Sugar, Orange and Fiesta.

Louisville's chances: If West Virginia beats Rutgers and the Cards win, they get the Big East bid and probably an Orange Bowl spot -- assuming the Rose picks LSU and the Sugar takes Notre Dame. If the Rose picks Notre Dame, the Cards may wind up in the Sugar Bowl because that bowl is unlikely to choose an all-SEC matchup. If West Virginia and UConn win, the resulting triple tie will be decided by which team has the highest BCS rank. If Rutgers beats West Virginia, it's unlikely Louisville would be chosen over LSU or Notre Dame and thus would be relegated to a non-BCS bowl. The Gator, Sun and Texas bowls are in the running for the top Big East also-rans.
So should West Virgina win, looks like we may get G tech or maybe Florida should they take care of business in atlanta

There was also a great article to go with this as well

I really hope we get FL instead of GT or Wake. I want to prove something. Not showcase something on a team that wont do anything about it.

And the confusion continues. THIS wrap-up suggests that the Sugar COULD take another SEC team but just won't. Others have said they plain aren't ALLOWED to take another SEC team. LSU getting in or not is a big piece of our at-large chances.

I want Florida. Forget all the scenarios, I just want to show that whiner Meyer what a real offense can do. Oh yeah, and I want to beat the SEC champs.

I want Florida. Bad. I am so tired of UK fans talking how UL would be a .500 team in the SEC...and how much superior to the big east. IMO, the Cards would DOMINATE florida.

I really doubt the BCS Bowl Committees would pass up an at large SEC bid for an AT LARGE UofL. I love my Cards but really - who would make a respective Bowl more money?

Continuing that line of thought I can't see why the Rose Bowl wouldn't take a Michigan - ND rematch based on fanbase and rivalry alone. I think that would bring more revenue than a Michigan - SEC matchup.

I'm putting my money on a Big East Champ UofL to play SEC Champ in the Sugar Bowl. Who in their right mind would think the best possible ratings (and reputation) scenario would be for the SEC Champ to play against an SEC team that didn't make it to the SEC Championship game themselves? Oh the ridiculous combinations an SEC-SEC Sugar Bowl could bring:

1. Florida beating an Arkansas to face LSU in the BCS ... the same LSU that lost to Arkansas.

2. Arkansas beating Florida to face LSU in the BCS ... if LSU wins then who really should be the SEC Champ?

Bottom line IMO - BE gets the Sugar Bowl and we'll see SEC teams in the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl.

Go Mountaineers!
