Go Get'em Chris.

Falcons quarterback rotation unclear
By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 08/09/07

Flowery Branch — Falcons coach Bobby Petrino is not settled on his quarterbacks rotation for the preseason opener, but expects to play his other starters 10 to 12 plays.

Joey Harrington will start Friday against the New York Jets. Then Petrino will likely hand the job to Chris Redman and D.J. Shockley, who are competing for the backup quarterback position.

Lang Campbell, a free agent from William & Mary, may see some late-game duty.

Redman has been working the No. 2 unit in practice. He hasn't played in an NFL game since 2003, in part because of injury. Shockley, a seventh-round pick in 2006 from Georgia, was the No. 3 quarterback last season.

"Sometimes when you grade out the practice, the true grade for D.J. doesn't show up," Petrino said. "The one thing that he has going for him is that he can run and move and make plays when things break down. That's something that we've been concentrating on practice."

During drills Wednesday, Shockley moved into a lane and Petrino would have preferred that he'd run the ball instead of staying with the pass play.

"He does have to understand that's one of his strengths," Petrino said. "We'll continue to give those guys the reps and see how it works out."

'Rookie' Petrino holding his breath

Petrino was able to joke about making his NFL head coaching debut.

"Well, it's got to be business," Petrino said. "I hope I don't hyperventilate like some of those rookies do."
