Not a big surprise there, but he also says the next two years are going to be rough. I don't like the sound of that.
Can the program survive three bad years of football? http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/...25/1002/SPORTS

I'd buy it as an "undersell, overperform" tactic, but not damage control. Just because you brace someone for a painful event doesn't mean the pain isn't coming. I think we ALL knew that this season was going to be a bad one. There's no depth after all the players that were given the bus pass home and the freak injuries we saw. But to write of this year AND next year? How in the hell can Krag not do something in recruiting to save 2009?
Also, if we know the next two years are going to be a loss, why not pass on the JUCOs and just sacrifice this season so we have some talented, experienced sophomores with playing time under their belts in '09? Signing a bunch of community college guys for this season isn't a consistent message on the long-term plan if we are supposed to really be rebuilding.

I am totally against the notion of Jurich using this tactic, I think it's a big mistake if he is.
What if potential recruits read it, what are they to think? Who wants to waste 2-years of their 4-year ride on a program rebuilding? Like the TE recruit (Cameron Graham 6-4 250 lbs) who already gave Louisville a supposed "strong verbal" but now has LSU beating down his path trying to lure him away. I ga-ron-tee LSU will use that against Louisville and steal that recruit. If I am a HS player and it's possible I will going to sit 2-years why not commit to LSU and maybe win a national Championship, get a ring and wait for my time to start. Or commit to Louisville and maybe get early PT for a team potentially heading to bottom barrel conference finishes and out of bowl contention? Heck he could win a nat champ, transfer to Louisville if the writting on the wall at LSU says not a starter and still have 2 or 3 years to start at Louisville. it puts too many variables against going to the Cards. It just muddles the recruiting process, it's all so competitive anyway, I'd say NEVER put a disclaimer like that out there.

I just have a hard time believing that it was that bad that it takes three freaking years to fix. That's not rebuilding, that's starting over from scratch, IMO.
I tend to believe he's sandbagging a bit, but who knows. He probably just shouldn't say anything along those lines and let the team do the talking. TJ really put himself in a tough situation by hiring a friend, IMO. He's still the best AD in the country and I wouldn't trade him for anything, but he's opening up himself to some legit criticism for the first time I can recall.

maybe he's just being honest. seems like a reasonable thing for him to say. we sucked last year. all the best players from that team are gone. we've no idea what to expect the next couple years. could be bad. could be good. who knows?
