All he really said is that the team is going to have depth issues. That's true in every imaginable way over the next two years. Him saying we're in "rebuilding mode" doesn't mean we're going to go 6-6 the next 2 years. It just means we're going to have to rebuild our depth, because the depth Petrino had in 2006 obviously was poised to disappear soon thereafter considering about half of his recruiting classes either never made it to campus or disappeared pretty quick after getting here.
And I remind you that's not Kragthorpe's fault.

We're paying $ million + EACH
to K and TJ for that $$$ you would think they (or someone) would have been bright enough football minds to see this locomotive of "terrible Petrino players" coming hard down the tracks LAST YR-- like maybe in all those pre-season drills (Y'know , kinda like John L did when he predicted THEN--after seeing one practice-- that we would have only 6 wins --and that something really looked wrong) The bald-faced fact is BOTH WERE TOTALLY CLUELESS I believe in TJ --but he is human. I fully beleive he has 3 "head coaches" in place because he doesn't fully understand yet whether K can do it (BTW, for those that don't know, K totally blind-sided TJ last yr with the interview with SMU --TJ refuses to discuss this with insiders) TJ is dialing back expectations now for the next two yrs because because of the total PR debacle last yr |

Well, I for one, can remember 40 years of basically nothing at U of L football ending with the slight upturn of the "Pipe" days.
Then John L. spoiled us with high scoring games, a step backward with Cooper. New heights with Petrino though he was a total liar. Now, the question is,"are you a fan?, or do you jump on and off the bandwagon depending on the last game or season? Well, they may suck; but, I am still a fan. If Petrino was here last year do you think he would have done any better? In my opinion maybe a game better or two. At least Jurich is attempting to be honest. I understand from other sources that player strength is way down on the defense. OK, if we have to rebuild then we have to rebuild. It might be only worse to switch coaches now after on year. Doing a lot with tier two players was the strong points of Schnellenberger, John L. and Petrino. If we had all 5 star people as recruits I would expect less of a drop. But, all the Jr. College recruits told the story long before Jurich. Having Brohm and Bush of the same team was a once in a lifetime bonus for U of L. I hope it doesn't take 3 years; but, if it does I won't be jumping off the bandwagon. Swamp Daddy |

Really?
I agree about the fan stuff. But then again, NONE of us would be on these boards discussing if we weren't fans thick and thin. The "bandwagon" fans stopped posting a long time ago, at least on football matters. But the stuff about Petrino doing nothing to improve our situation last season? Really? I thought we were pretty much in consensus that our coordinators sucked donkey turds last year. Petrino knew that Cassity was bad... that's why he had Wolthausen. Stubbs was a nightmare. Krag didn't show me much to believe he could run the show without top-notch assistants. With Petrino, we'd definitely have won 9 games... probably competed for the Big East title, too. I bet we would have had a lot fewer kids getting out of line, too. Critique things all you want on last season, but please don't smear Petrino's name to make last year's staff seem better than it was. It sucked, period.

I've been there just as long as you Swampdaddy
And yeah, you have to get support the coach and team but last yr was an unmitigated disaster....shall we review briefly (Let me first say before I dive into this cess pool that I hope to God K wins 9+ games and proves my ass wrong) Why do I dislike/distrust K? Let me count the ways: 1) We are paying him $ million / yr—yet he can’t see the locomotive of “terrible Petrino players) coming hard down the tracks. Yet John L, after watching one practice, predicts we’ll win 6 games and that something is really wrong. 2) He compounds this lack of insight, by not down-playing any talk of a Nat’l title run—in fact, we get pics of him driving around in a golf cart smiling, and hear that the coaches all get home in bed by 7p now. How nice. 3) He adopts his deer-in-the-headlights look in a wild 2nd game with power-house Mid Tenn 4) His bland, no-speak starts to reach it’s no-true-answers peak after the debacle in just the 4th game against Syracuse 5) As the ship is really going down, our Captain interviews on the sly with SMU during the season! - and is caught right after the melt-down game against So Fla. He totally blind-sided TJ with this, I have found. 6) During the SMU interview he bad-mouths Jurich! for not letting him bring all his own staff—as if we needed more brilliant minds like Stubbs. 5) He brings a doofus like Stubbs to begin with—that has no clue how to use a Heisman QB or the talent he has inherited 6) Although there has been no string of arrests or major problems during Petrino, suddenly players are being suspended left and right, and there are all these problem players Petrino left that can’t be managed. Is it suddenly the players—or the mgmt of the players? Don’t you think TJ fully knew and approved Petrino’s policies on drug testing, etc. The players were not running amok before! Weed has been around awhile, y'know. 7) In pre-season K forced the D coaches to adopt a different scheme than they had run in the past. It took 4 games to begin to “simplify” , i.e. do what used to work! 8) After the Syracuse game, when he had run out of any true answers-except ” I screwed up” - suddenly we become Marijuana U (thru I believe lax player mgmt and discipline, when morale plummeted), and reefer madness takes over. We get a bad nat’l rep and And K “suddenly” has a ready excuse—and another reason he can give SMU, etc. for why he “failed” and wants to leave. 9) Finally, as our Captain tries to abandon the burning ship, we have to hear him whine in the media about how his family and son are taking heat from the community. As if this doesn’t happen to any coach during tough times. Suddenly, we are an awful community…and he must take his family away for safety! Sheeshh... I have to go lay down now... |

I have no doubt that Petrino would have won more games, possibly 4 more and that hurts. I am not sold on Kragthorpe at all but am willing to give him a couple of more years.
The part I question is whether Petrino actually controlled his players better or ignored and covered-up a lot of situations. We'll never know (unless one of the Brohms writes a tell-all book).
