Default Bennett's practice observations

Some good stuff here on his blog.
http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/bennett/blog.html

He also says that the last chance to see a practice before the spring game is Saturday the 5th at 10am.

Here are some interesting tidbits from the blog...

None of the junior-college transfers have stuck out to me in my two days of observations. They're still a long way off from being solid contributors.(Harvey says 'what a shocker' )
....
On offense, the ball gets thrown downfield and run between the tackles for new O.C. Jeff Brohm. In two days, I haven't seen one end-around or one swing pass to a running back.

Juco's are juco's. we havent had much luck with them in the past and I dont expect that to change in the future. Turreyne(Sp?) was supposed to be "NFL ready" and he got used like a two dollar hooker MANY times last year.

The defense was so bad as a whole last year, I'm gonna chalk that up to the system and give Turenne a chance to redeem himself this year.

Many JUCO's don't work out, but some do. Deion Branch comes to mind.

i dont know...woodney was supposed to be an all star one on one coverage corner. He got abused several times last season in that regard...

I HOPE we dont see any more of those blown coverages next season...

The blown coverages we saw last year would get a high school coach fired. Getting beat by a team with more talent is one thing, but getting beat out of repetitious stupidity is whole different level of frustration. I expect a much more fundamentaly sound defense. It may not be better, but at least it will be athlete vs athlete and not some guy running uncovered down the field.
I have very low expectations for the upcoming season. I am hoping to be pleasently suprised, but I refuse be dissapointed with a lack of performace out Krag and the guys. That just takes all the fun out of it.

My oldest brother invited me to go see Krag speak this morning at his church in New Albany. I declined because it didn't seem to be the right environment for drunken heckling. I'm sure it was inspirational as all get out. It was probably a packed house. I just hope the play measures up to the inspiration so that the "pews" at PJCS will be filled on Saturdays (or thursdays, fridays, tuesdays, whatever). Maybe he is in the right place this morning as I believe it will take an act of god to have a decent season in 2008.

SUICIDE

I am usually one of the more positive guys you will run across on a message board but 2008FB is hard to spin into a positive.

We will suck REALLY, REALLY bad on defense this year. We had one guy capable of tackling and he's gone(Myles). We had one guy who had proven he can man up on a WR(Council) and he robbed a 7-11. We had one guy who had the capability to get to the QB(Peanut) and he has a medical condition that ended his career. Our best defense would be running the clock and our big bruising back transferred.

If I were a division I coach and had these guys on defense I would go for it on fourth down every time. We ain't stopping nobody. (Bad grammar)

Prepare yourselves for a Cooperesque type season.

What?

Peanut didnt have a sack in 2007 until the Cincy game.

#99 Earl Heyman ( 6-3 285 lbs) had a solid season at DT last year.
He is a good football player and I expect him to have a better 2008 under the new coaching staff.

His little brother (Dexter) may have stepped into the big time with our lack of depth at LB, we may not have time for him to pack on weight.
