Some of you all aren't old enough to remember how bad the blood use to be when we played Memphis in the Metro Conference and before. There was going to be a fight when Louisville and Memphis hit the court, write it down. I hated when we quit playing them and when we started the games up again, the rivalry wasn't there anymore. This is before we ever played Kentucky in modern times so Memphis was our rival, bar none. We were almost getting back to the nastiness but we left for the Big East. Believe me, those were some nasty games.

Junkman has it correct. Memphis has always raised the red cape for me. I recall back when there weren't a million bowls and Memphis had a super team and didn't get any bowl bid. UL played them last game of the season after they knew they weren't going to be getting a bowl bid and the score was something like Memphis 66,Louisville 10 when then new coach Corso threw a white towel on the field to surrender. Didn't work, Memphis kept piling it on.
And, in basketball most of you were too young to recall them hiring B-ball coach Dana (doin' time) Kirk who was Crums assistant only because he promised them he could beat UL. Which until that point they hadn't even come close to doing. Well Kirk delivered off and on with underhanded payoffs to players, etc. And, of course, you realize this was maybe the best replacement we could get for when Ga Tech backed out as I recall. A very last minute thing. and somebody oughta clue Kragthorpe in, that even if they throw in the white (or blue) towel, we should keep stomping them. LOL Swamp Daddy |

Based on the rate of player attrition on this team, I don't think Memphis will be needing a white towel. We are likely still going to win, but I'm not betting on any blowouts for Louisville in this or any game next season.
