What is going to allow us to sign a huge freshman class next year? Just because we brought in 9 juniors this year doesn't mean we get to sign 30 freshmen next year. Those JUCO guys will still be around.

If anything, we'll get a HUGE freshman class in two years. Or another big JUCO class. Either way, it means we will be rebuilding in 2010 no matter how well the team does in 2008 and/or 2009.

That is exactly my point in the first half of my post.

So, 2 years with heavy JUCO involvement can stabilize the program so that by 2010 we can see a lot of talented (hopefully) underclassmen who are maybe sophomores or redshirt freshmen.

One of the main weapons the University of Louisville lost off last year's football team was kicker Art Carmody, a mainstay with the Cardinals program.

So coach Steve Kragthorpe and his staff went out and found a replacement - Atlanta (Ga.) St. Pius X kicker Chris Philpott.

"He's a very good kicker, he hit over 90 percent of his kicks out of the end zone," Kragthorpe said. "And he recently kicked a 60-yard field goal off the ground in a competition in Miami."

The 6-foot, 180-pound Philpott, who broke all his high school kicking records and was named All-State and All-Conference, said it was his "dream to play college football."

"I can't wait to play for Louisville," Philpott said. "I worked so hard and was getting a lot of looks. But when I went to Louisville, I knew it was the place for me. I just can't tell you how excited I am to be coming there to play."

Philpott was 30-for-30 on extra points and hit 12 of 15 field goals, including longs of 49, 50 and 51 yards. He averaged 41.0 yards a punt and was named by Rivals.com as the second-most accurate kicker in the country. He kicked 53 of 57 kickoffs out of the end zone.

"I do both kick and punt, but I was stronger on kickoffs this year," Philpott said.

So, what about next year?

"The coaches tell me that if I keep working, I'm their guy," Philpott said. "It's there for me to keep working hard and try and take it."

UL has put a good number of kickers in the pros, that never hurts when recruiting a kicker.

Man I Just read that Ron Prince at Kansas State signed 19 JUCO guys this year. NINETEEN!

If that was us I actually would be worried haha.
