Default Cuban Fighter Attacks Olympics Official

Did anyone else see this? I saw the headlines on the local newspaper this morning, but haven't heard anything outside of that.

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more bad pub for the sport.

the cuban fighter and his coach are banned for life, I wonder if they are rethinking the incident now.

Well I just read this, so I doubt they think they were wrong when a iconic public figure speaks out in support of your actions.

Castro defends Cuban athlete who kicked taekwondo referee in face

HAVANA (AP) -- Fidel Castro on Monday defended the Cuban taekwondo athlete who kicked a referee in the face at the Beijing Olympics, saying Angel Matos was rightfully indignant over his disqualification from the bronze-medal match.

Taekwondo officials want Matos and his coach banned for life from the sport. But Castro expressed "our total solidarity" for both Matos and his coach Leudis Gonzalez.
