Default P-funked at Waterfront

Anybody catch George Clinton's show last night at Waterfront Park? That was the first time I'd seen him live. It was totally awesome...until 11:00pm. Seems the Waterfront Development Corp. felt it necessary to begin the fireworks show promptly at 11. George had just started his encore when the fireworks began. It was pretty cool to see both fireworks and George laying it down. Then, to my obsolute shock, officials actually pulled the plug on George in order to pipe in the music that was recorded for the fireworks. He and his entourage kept on playing, I assume because the sound system on stage continued to work, so George must have thought his show was still on. The rest of the crowd, however, was listening to Neil Diamond and marching songs. After watching George "perform" for nearly 10 additional minutes while the fireworks music drowned him out, I felt so embarassed by this city that I had to leave. Maybe the only time I ever see Clinton live and his show is ruined by some knuckleheads who probably don't understand the significance of Clinton as an icon in the music industry. Clearly, they felt 100,000 people gathered to see fireworks instead of George Clinton.

Aside from that rant, the show was awesome. He was puttin' it on big time. He really knows how to put on a show, and I stood in the rain with my eyes and ears riveted to the stage. Awesome!

I'm with you totally embarrassing. Whoever made that decision should be fired, totally inept person in charge.

I mean what's the difference if the fireworks were at 11pm or 11:10 pm?

Or the real issue, why does a fireworks show need choreographed music, especially Niel DIamond and marching bands.....and that's better that George Clinton?

Heads should roll.

I'm sorry I missed that show.

I would have like to have made that show but I had a family thing going. Also would have really like to have seen Los Lobos.

When I was in high school, mid 60s, the Parliaments were the hottest band to come to Louisville. They played several times a year at dances. They were the best party band of all time, founded by Clinton. They had a very unique sound, in addition to their PA, they placed a horn speaker on a folding metal chair on each side of the stage. Man I sure had some good times dancin the night away. They then became the Parliament-Funkadelics and the music was not as good. The P-funk All Stars are killer.
