Shiny new buildings are nice to look at.

So is not having to abide by the rules that public schools do as far as recruiting for your sports programs.

Quote:
The Greater Clark County School system has sent a warning to both St. Xavier and Trinity High Schools in Louisville, saying stay away from our athletes.

They claim middle school players were approached by Saint X representatives, and they want this to stop.

St. X President Dr. Perry Sangalli tells WHAS11 News he met on Thursday with the athletic director and the coaching staff and that none of them were involved in this alleged recruiting.

But, a member of the Greater Clark School Board tells me that two Parkview Middle School “blue chip” athletes were approached by people who said they were from St. X.

“When they come into the locker room and/or playing field and speak to kids in uniform, that’s crossing the line,” said Greater Clark School Board Vice-President Robbie Valentine.

Trinity’s athletic director would not comment on the allegations, saying they were not leveled against his school. However, both St. X and Trinity are targets of certified letters from Clark County, a warning not just to coaching staffs, but to the schools’ very large fan bases.

“In many instances, it can be overly zealous boosters, it can be overly zealous alumni, overly zealous parents doing whatever they think is appropriate to perpetuate the success of their programs,” said Tony Bennett, Superintendant of Greater Clark Schools.

Bennett and Valentine say they are not resentful of the success of St. X or Trinity, but want to be sure they’re competing on a level playing field. The St. X. president says they “play more than fair,” but the issue just never seems to go away.
Public schools will never compete on a level playing field with St. X and Trinity in football.....EVER.

Maybe 50-years ago but not today unless things are changed.

There is a reason that St. X and Trinity have won some ridiculous number like 22 out of the last 32 state championships (1975-2006) plus Trinity won the 1st 6A championship so that's 23 out of the last 33 years.

Public vs. Private and the new six class playoff system that kicks off in 2007.
Leaders of some public schools -- many outside Jefferson County -- cried "foul" over the state playoff dominance of Catholic schools like St. X and Trinity.

The chief allegation? Recruitment of players from their school districts.

Last month, the KHSAA passed Proposal 2.

It requires 8th grade student athletes who switch from public to private school or private to public for their high school years to sit out one year of sports. The day it passed, private school officials threatened a lawsuit.
Well hell yes they threatened a lawsuit !!!!

KHSAA is specifically putting a rule in the books to stop St. X and Trinity from recruiting, this would impede their dominance in football so they are pissed.

I personally know for a fact that a little league coach who is affiliated with the Trinity program has spoken to stud athletes and helped open doors for them to attend Trinity.

He isn't actually a Trinity coach but his little league teams run Trinity's offense and he wears a Trinity hat and belt to every practice and throws on his trinity jacket when it gets cold.

I knew about it first, then heard him speak about it to coaches at a coaching clinic with my own ears at Holy Cross H.S. in 2004. Bragging about how many players he coached who went on to Trinity.

Unfortunately my son played for him.............It was hilarious when the best player on his team spurned Trinity and now attends St. X

They do recruit and it's illegal.
A school that enrolls athletes from all over "KENTUCKIANA" has an unfair advantage.

I'll bet Male bends a few rules for athletes too. Supposedly you cant attend Male unless you came from a Traditional middle school but I'll bet that's not the case in some athletes.

Still I know it pales in comparison to public school athletes who ent up at Trinity and St. X.

Enrollment in Jefferson County goes like this, you go to your home school unless you apply and are accepted to a magnet school/traditional program or can get into St. X or Trinity.

If your a stud football player it goes like this, a rep from St. X or Trinity contacts you and you take their offer or you have to go to your home school or apply to a magnet program/traditional school.

When you can show a kid "state of the art" athletic facilities and dangle "financial help" ie a scholarship in front of them while a Jefferson County Public School has to wait for that kid or the parents to contact them to even speak to them it is not a level playing field.

Stroke a young athletes ego enough and you will win them over in a heartbeat.

Football is the big money sport in HS and in that regard those two schools have an unfair advantage.

Let St. X and Trinity play a 10 game schedule then they can play every year for a 7a championship and let all they other schools who abide by the rules play a playoff in their respective divisions and compete for a title.

Cheers to those who send their kids to St. X and Trinity I'm sure they get a fine education and get to excel in athletics as well.

I have friends who went to both schools and played semipro football with about a dozen player from both schools and they are all great athletes and football players.
