Cards’ Luck Improves, Sparks 35-28 Win
It wasn’t long ago the Cardinals – and especially their special teams – couldn’t buy a lucky break. The football gods returned them all in one night. Louisville took advantage of several lucky bounces, bobbles, and blocks, getting a pair of special teams touchdowns and a defensive score to lead a 35-28 win over the host Memphis Tigers.

Tigers as Stubborn as Ever
As college rivalries go, Memphis has held plenty of acrimony, hostility, and aggression towards the Louisville Cardinals through the years. Even as UofL left for the Big East in 2005, their former conference mates did all they could do to block the Cards’ departure and then to dictate the fine print of that agreement as it pertained to future C-USA opponents. The rivalry renews this week, with the Cards headed back to the Liberty Bowl no less to face a program and fan base ready to unleash 36 months of pent-up anger. It should come as little surprise, then, that your favorite reconnaissance reporter met his first true road block in sneaking behind enemy lines. A veritable steel curtain around the city of Memphis has this week’s fact-finding mission in full rogue mode. We try to get to know the Tigers in a special espionage edition of Behind Enemy Lines.

Fellow super fan and overall great guy Justin Bowen (JBO or jerb to those who love him) is in the middle of a tough situation. A few days ago, Justin’s son, Shawn, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia (ALL) and he has already begun treatment. There is nothing I could magically write that could make this situation any easier to deal with and as a parent myself I can think of no worse pain than what his family is going through.

There is one thing we can all do and that is help the family get through what is sure to be a trying time with a small symbol of hope. Several card fans have already joined together to try and take some of the financial burden off the Bowen family. If you have a couple extra dollars please chip in. A website has already been setup to accept donations at http://shawnbowen.net/ .

There will be other opportunities for you to help as some other fans have already put the plans in motion for a golf scramble and a fundraiser at the BBC on Nov. 8.

Please keep the entire Bowen family in your thoughts, I know I will.

Huskies’ Late INT Touchdown Steals Win
There are tough losses. Then there are the losses the Louisville Cardinals have suffered in consecutive seasons at the hands of the Connecticut Huskies. Amped up and looking for revenge after last year’s “Unfair Catch” stole a victory and bowl eligibility from them, the Cards stormed out to a 21-10 lead behind the running of Victor Anderson and Bilal Powell Friday night at PJCS. But a late Hunter Cantwell interception, returned 45 yards by LB Lawrence Wilson, capped a run of 16 unanswered points to seal a 26-21 UConn victory.
